After what happened to another AEW champion, namely CM Punk who announced that for now, he will have to give up the title to take a break and undergo surgery leaving his reign to a temporary interim champion, the AEW TNT champion has also announced that he was injured.
Scorpio Sky, logged into his Twitter account to announce that he suffered a muscle strain in his leg during his TNT title defense against Dante Martin on AEW Rampage. In his post, Sky gives some details about what happened and says the doctors have yet to let him know how long it will take him to recover.
“I entered the match last night with knee discomfort and unfortunately in the opening minutes, I tensed a muscle that runs from my knee through my groin. My right leg became useless from that point on. Despite this, fighting in Southern California was also incredible on one leg.
Hopefully, nothing serious, and I'll be back to defend [the title] soon."
Latest update on Scorpio Sky
Ahead of AEW's marquee event, Double or Nothing this Sunday, Scorpio Sky appeared on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, where he talked about numerous topics, most notably the reason why he left SoCal Uncensored (SCU).
As we have seen over the course of the different reigns of the TNT champions, the belt has often changed its appearance to better suit the champion wearing it, perhaps taking on characteristic colors that could be a hallmark of each individual champion, and this has happened.
obviously also for Scorpio Sky, who wanted to make a special tribute with his. In fact, in last week's episode of AEW Rampage, the wrestler presented the version of him in gold and purple, a clear homage to the NBA team of the Los Angeles Lakers, supported by the wrestler in question.
Not only are the colors a tribute, but the belt also has the numbers 8 and 24, the numbers of Kobe Bryant's uniform, engraved where the buttons are attached. Sky has revealed via social media that the belt will be named "Jeanie" as a tribute to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss.
AEW star Scorpio Sky also revealed that both Frankie and Christopher helped him become a much better wrestler. "I still rely on them for guidance because they are the two best ever and they are both so intelligent. I have learned so much from them.
There is no coincidence that I have become a much [better] performer from the time I personally talked to them to today. They have taken me to that next level." said Sky.
