CM Punk Undergoes Successful Lower Leg Surgery

CM Punk recently announced that he will need to undergo surgery which will take him out of action for some time. This was after CM Punk won the AEW World Title. He recently underwent lower leg surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

The surgery announcement was made during a live telecast of Dynamite. AEW has not stated when CM Punk is likely to return or how severe the actual injury was. It is true that CM Punk wasn’t moving very well during his last few matches.

He was also seen favoring one of his legs on TV a few times.

No Return Data For CM Punk is Given by AEW

CM Punk announced that he would need some time off during a Rampage episode. Punk mentioned a few things during that statement.

He stated that two things were broken, the biggest being his heart. He however never told the fans about what kind of injury he had at that time. Tony Khan actually spoke about the injury during an episode of Busted Open Radio.

He stated that CM Punk will be treated by one of the top doctors in the entire world in sports medicine. He too did not provide any details about the injury or just how bad it is. CM Punk will not be able to compete for some time it seems.

That is the reason why an Interim AEW World Champion will be crowned soon. On Dynamite at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, MO, Kyle O’Reilly won the battle royal. The Battle Royal included Darby Allin, Eddie Kingston, Ricky Starks and Keith Lee.

He went on to fight Jon Moxley at the main event as part of AEW’s Interim World Championship Eliminator Series. Jon was able to defeat Kyle. He will go on to fight Hiroshi Tanahashi or Hirooki Goto for the AEW World Title.

Hiroshi and Hirooki will fight at NJPW Dominion on the 12th of June. The winner of that match will fight Jon at the Forbidden Door PPV. If CM Punk returns to wrestle, the AEW Interim Champion that will be crowned at the Forbidden Door PPV will have to fight CM Punk to unify the title.

It was apparently Tony Khan’s decision to not let CM Punk relinquish the title, as CM Punk is probably the biggest star that AEW Currently has. In fact, CM Punk’s injury is probably a huge blow to AEW, who still are not beating WWE in ratings even though they have signed some of the best wrestlers in the world.
