Welcome to the first part of the report of a special episode of Dynamite, entitled "Quake by the Lake" and broadcast live from the Target Center in Minneapolis. Lots of meat on the agenda, including the main event for the AEW world title between Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho.
But let's go in order! Coffin Match: Darby Allin vs Brody King The episode opens with a brutal coffin match between two wrestlers who have had a heated rivalry in recent months. Darby Allin had even been the victim of an ambush at San Dieg Comic-Con in July.
The former TNT Champion took his revenge after strangling Brody King with a steel chain, making him fall from the apron directly into the coffin positioned outside the ring.
Darby Allin put on a show
Julia Hart distracted Darby Allin as he was hit with a chopblock to the knee.
Matthews then took out Allin as Malakai Black set up a table in the corner. Of note, at the end of the match, the intervention of Sting (surprisingly released from the coffin) saw him have an intense face-to-face with Malakai Black.
"The Icon" still bore the marks of the Black Mist on his face. Tag Team Tornado Match: Penta Oscuro & Rey Fenix vs Andrade El Idolo & Rush Couples match with a high adrenaline rate that is won by Rush and Andrade thanks to the pinfall of the latter against Rey Fenix with the patented Hammerlock DDT.
At the end of the match Penta Oscuro decided to unmask himself, despite him, to break a pin. Backstage we see the Young Bucks trying to recruit Adam "Hangman" Page for the Trios Championship tournament (starting next week).
The former champion declines the offer and reveals that he will be in the corner of the Dark Order. Matt and Nick Jackson, therefore, are currently left without a partner. All tournament pairings are officially revealed. The finals to crown the first Trios Champions in AEW history will be held at All Out on September 4th in Chicago!
The leader of the House of Black offers him the opportunity to help him sit on the throne. Meanwhile, Brody challenges Darby Allin to a Coffin Match! AEW Women's World Title Match: Pink Thunder (c.) Vs. Miya Yamashita Although her reign has been subdued compared to Britt Baker's, Thunder Rosa proves once again that she is one of the best around. It is she who wins the championship with the licensed Fire Thunder Driver against the Japanese fighter.
