Dustin Rhodes is the son of legendary professional wrestling promoter, Dusty Rhodes, and he recently opened up about what he believes is the worst decision of his life. Dustin Rhodes is currently working for AEW. He is mostly known for being a WWE superstar and used to wrestle under the ring name Goldust.
Goldust was one of the most bizarre characters that the WCW has ever produced. Many people believe that the character actually tarnished his father’s legacy and Vince Mcmahon deliberately wanted Dustin to play the character to humiliate Dusty Rhodes, who was at the time not on good terms with Vince McMahon.
Dustin Rhodes Opens Up About What He Believes Was the Worst Decision of His Life
Dustin appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast, where he spoke about the Goldust character, and he believes that having a falling out which his dad was the worst decision of his life.
He revealed that he previously tried to walk in his father’s footsteps, but it wasn’t working for him. So Dustin decided that he would make his own decisions and that he would actually try to do things his way. According to him, Vince may have wanted to humiliate Dusty by making Dustin wear Polka dots at one time.
"I had that in the back of my head, like, is he ribbing me for this?" Rhodes said. "But at that point, I had been trying to follow in my dad's footsteps for so long and it was like, 'it's not working man, I have to do something else.'
We had a falling out, which was the worst thing, the worst decision of my life ever –- you've got one dad, one mom, so it's good to work things out, right? But we were in that downtime where we weren't speaking to each other and Vince had just called me and he presented that and I just said yes." Cody once shared the story about Dusty regarding the character.
Cody spoke to Dustin Rhodes about seeing their father’s face, when Dusty took a look at the Goldust character for the first time. He said, "[Cody] looked back at dad's face, and dad's face was like, 'What ... ?' He didn't know, and now his son is dressed up like this and he said ruining the Rhodes name or the legacy.
I don't look at it that way. I just look at it as me stepping into my own shoes and trying to do something on my own, and did it."
