AAA booker Konnan recently revealed that Kenny Omega, a top wrestler in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has likely re-signed with the company after extended negotiations. As a result, a highly anticipated match against AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo at Sunday's AAA Triplemania Monterrey event could not be scheduled.
However, AAA still hopes to book this exciting matchup in the future. Konnan initially intended to feature Omega at the Triplemania Monterrey event, but Omega's ongoing negotiations with AEW complicated the process. Omega was uncertain about his future with AEW and whether he would stay or move on to a different wrestling promotion, such as WWE.
In an interview with Nick Hausman, Konnan explained, "Originally, we were going to bring in Omega, but he was still negotiating with AEW and wasn't sure if he would stay. So, we couldn't commit, and he didn't want to come here until he signed.
So, that was out the window, boom."
Omega's AEW Status Discussed
Although Konnan has not explicitly confirmed Omega's re-signing with AEW, he is optimistic about the wrestler's future with the company. He said, "I'm assuming [Omega has re-signed with AEW].
I never really asked him, but there are plans for him in the future, so I think he already signed. But, you know, he wasn't sure if he would stay, and WWE was talking to him. Do you know? So, we couldn't get him to commit." Without the highly anticipated match between Omega and Vikingo, AAA has organized a thrilling Fatal 4 Way match for the Triplemania Monterrey event.
This match will feature AEW's Swerve Strickland, Impact Wrestling's Rich Swann, and Komander alongside El Hijo del Vikingo. Fans eagerly await this exciting display of wrestling prowess as the four athletes go head-to-head in what is sure to be an unforgettable showdown.
Despite the current lineup, AAA remains hopeful about booking a match between Omega and Vikingo at an upcoming Triplemania event. The two wrestlers have previously clashed in an AEW Dynamite match on March 22, which saw Omega emerge victorious.
A rematch would allow Vikingo to challenge Omega once more and claim victory.
As wrestling enthusiasts eagerly await news about Omega's AEW status and the possible scheduling of a future match against Vikingo, they can still look forward to an action-packed AAA Triplemania Monterrey event.
The Fatal 4 Way featuring Vikingo, Strickland, Swann, and Komander, promises to deliver the high-octane wrestling entertainment that fans have come to expect from these talented athletes.
