It appears that Joey Ryan is going to quit the independent circuit, at least that is what his Twitter account says. He has even released a new “Farewell” tour shirt that can be purchased at Pro Wrestling Tees. According to a few reports, Joey Ryan and WWE are in talks.
They started talking last week! The WWE wants Ryan to work on its development system. They started talking to him after they found out that Ryan’s contract with Lucha Underground ended. On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that the WWE offer was not special and he wouldn’t be place on the main roster.
They apparently want to sign him so he can’t work for any other promotion. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that WWE wanted Ryan to move to Orlando so that he can work at NXT. He would later move on to coaching.
Joey Ryan may actually get signed by All Elite Wrestling. He was at the All In event and is part of the Being the Elite series. He did use the #RAW tag in an attempt to swerve his fans it seems. Ryan also has 16 dates for his indie schedule.
Ryan appeared for a WWE tryout in 2013. He was told at that time that he is too old and he reports that that was the only feedback he received from the WWE. "I mean, it was what it was," Ryan told us in 2013. "I don't even know how to really describe it because it didn't have a whole lot to even do with professional wrestling.
