Fans of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) are in for a treat this Friday with a unique "Championship Friday" edition of AEW Rampage. Interestingly, no AEW title will be put on the line; instead, fans will witness four championship matches from various promotions.
The lineup was unveiled during Wednesday night's episode of AEW Dynamite, and the list is certainly eclectic. Among the champions to defend their titles on Friday's AEW Rampage is Willow Nightingale, the newly crowned and inaugurated NJPW Strong Women's Champion.
Nightingale rose to the top after last month's unfortunate injury sidelined Mercedes Mone at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Resurgence event in Long Beach, California. The charismatic Nightingale is now set to put her title on the line against Japanese veteran Emi Sakura.
Zack Sabre Jr.' s Rampage Defense
Zack Sabre Jr., another shining star from NJPW and the current World TV Champion, is also scheduled for a title defense on Rampage. His opponent is the agile Action Andretti. While Sabre Jr.
has made a name for himself in Ring of Honor recently, this will mark only his second match at an AEW-promoted event. Fans may remember his debut against Claudio Castagnoli at the inaugural Forbidden Door pay-per-view last June.
The sequel to this exciting event, a collaboration between AEW and NJPW, is slated for Sunday, June 25, less than a month from now. Meanwhile, Ring of Honor (ROH) will be included. Katsuyori Shibata, the current ROH Pure Champion, will defend his title against the ever-impressive Lee Moriarty.
Rounding off the Friday Rampage's quartet of title matches, El Hijo del Vikingo is scheduled to return to the AEW for a thrilling AAA Mega Championship three-way bout against Dralistico and Komander. This will be Vikingo's first AEW appearance since his Rampage match about a month ago.
Vikingo's AAA Mega Championship reign has been impressive, surpassing the 500-day mark. This Championship Friday promises a unique blend of styles and championship clashes, further cementing AEW's position in professional wrestling. It's a show that fans won't want to miss.
