AEW's two-time WWE Hall of Famer, Booker T, has shed light on his vision of the true pillars of All Elite Wrestling (AEW). His picks included former World Champion Jon Moxley, sparking controversy within the wrestling community.
At the AEW Double or Nothing event, the World Title match spotlighted reigning champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), facing contenders "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, Sammy Guevara, and Darby Allin. The match bore particular significance because these four competitors were referred to as AEW's "four pillars" - the company's bedrock since its inception.
Unique to this quartet is that none featured in a national wrestling promotion before joining AEW in 2019, thus charting their professional growth concurrently within AEW for the past four years. The match concluded with MJF triumphing over Allin, prolonging his seven-month-long World Championship reign.
Booker T Defines AEW 'Pillar'
On his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T expounded on his notion of an AEW "pillar," saying, "A pillar, for me, is the guy who's building the foundation. That would be a guy like Jon Moxley." When his co-host, Brad Gilmore, suggested Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega as the actual "four pillars," Booker readily agreed.
Furthering the conversation, Booker expressed criticism of other AEW wrestlers who questioned the validity of the "Four Pillars" moniker. He asserted, "You don't hear [those] guys saying [anything]. Do you know why? … It is work.
Come on, man. Wake up. Wise up. Wise up and quit giving the fans clickbait stuff like this. Wise up. Quit marking out over yourself. That's what this thing's about." Booker's remarks might have been aimed at AEW's Ricky Starks, who publicly expressed his aversion to the concept of AEW having foundational figures.
Booker ultimately dismissed the idea of "four pillars" as lacking substance, saying, "That ['four pillars'] stuff, it doesn't mean anything. It has zero weight, other than the perception that we're trying to sell to … our fans." Booker T continues to offer his seasoned insights as an analyst on WWE NXT every Tuesday night.
