AEW TBS Women's Champion Kris Statlander is optimistic about the impact of CM Punk's return, hoping it will bring positivity to everyone involved in All Elite Wrestling. Obstacles and uncertainties have marked CM Punk's journey back to AEW.
Following the infamous brawl after All Out last September, Punk faced suspension, jeopardizing his AEW future. However, in April, reports emerged of plans for his long-awaited return, expecting him to play a prominent role in AEW's new Saturday night program, Collision.
Punk's Absence Sparks Controversy
Surprisingly, when Collision was officially announced in May, Punk's name was conspicuously absent. It later came to light that a dispute had arisen between Punk and AEW over the return of his close friend and trainer, Ace Steel, who was fired due to the brawl.
Despite Steel being rehired by AEW several months ago, with the understanding that he would return to active duty when Collision commenced, a decision was made to keep him off the road, straining Punk's relationship with the company.
The discord surrounding Punk's situation cast doubt on Collision's debut. However, after resolving the issues and signing nondisclosure agreements, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that CM Punk would make his highly-anticipated return on the show's inaugural episode on June 17th in Chicago, IL.
In an interview with Nick Hausman for Haus of Wrestling, Kris Statlander, the reigning AEW TBS Women's Champion, shared her thoughts on Punk's comeback, expressing her hope for a positive impact on the company. Statlander acknowledged that her interactions with Punk have generally been positive and emphasized the importance of favorable outcomes for AEW, particularly with the series of announcements and the launch of the new show.
Reflecting on the challenges in any job, Statlander voiced her aspiration for a healthy future for AEW, emphasizing the organization's well-being as the top priority. Recently returning from injury, Statlander won remarkably over Jade Cargill at Double or Nothing to become the TBS Champion.
As the wrestling world eagerly anticipates CM Punk's return to AEW, Kris Statlander's positive outlook reflects a collective hope for a prosperous and harmonious future within the promotion.
