AEW Fires BJ Whitmer After Arrest

In a recent press release, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) confirmed that it had terminated its relationship with BJ Whitmer, a respected producer, and former wrestling coach. This drastic action follows the news of Whitmer's arrest in Boone County, Kentucky, on June 4th, for severe charges of first-degree strangulation and second-degree burglary.

Whitmer, a veteran of the wrestling scene, found himself in the custody of Boone County Sheriff's Department, facing charges that carry significant legal consequences. In Kentucky, first-degree strangulation is classified as a Class C felony, with the potential of a 5 to 10-year prison sentence.

Meanwhile, second-degree burglary involves the offender "knowingly entering or remaining in a dwelling with the intent to commit a crime," a crime that can also warrant 5 to 10 years of imprisonment.

Whitmer Released on Bond

Reports from PWInsider revealed that Whitmer was released on a hefty $25,000 bond following the incident on Monday, June 12th.

The wrestling world and its followers awaited AEW's response promptly and decisively. The official statement from AEW clarified the company's stance, stating, "BJ Whitmer's contract has been terminated following his arrest on charges related to domestic violence.

While individuals are responsible for their conduct, AEW firmly believes such behavior is unacceptable. We are extending support to those impacted by his actions." The wrestling organization reaffirmed its commitment to a safe and respectful environment, highlighting its swift action upon learning about Whitmer's charges.

Whitmer has been an integral part of AEW since its establishment in 2019, serving as a Coach/Producer and providing expert judgment for ROH Pure Wrestling matches. Before AEW, he was affiliated with Ring of Honor (ROH) since 2003, initially as a wrestler before transitioning into backstage roles.

Whitmer retired from active wrestling in 2017 due to persistent neck and back issues. However, his contribution to the wrestling industry is undeniable, making these recent developments all the more disconcerting.
