Confusion Surrounds CM Punk 'Counterfeit Bucks' Line in AEW Collision Promo

CM Punk's highly anticipated return to the wrestling scene has undoubtedly created ripples throughout the industry, and his recent appearance on "AEW Collision" has sparked a new controversy. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, esteemed journalist Dave Meltzer sheds light on a conflicting aspect of Punk's promo, specifically his "counterfeit bucks" line, which seemingly targeted the popular tag team, the Young Bucks.

Initial reports seemed to suggest that the line had received approval from management. Meltzer himself had indicated this in a previous daily update. However, the most recent Wrestling Observer update presents a contrasting narrative, revealing that Punk's choice of words caused frustration behind the scenes.

The Young Bucks, along with Kenny Omega, are allegedly unable to respond publicly due to legal obligations, implying that a non-disclosure agreement related to a previous backstage conflict may have been signed by all parties involved.

Elite Absent in Chicago Homecoming

The premier episode of "AEW Collision," as well as the subsequent "AEW Dynamite" episode, both took place in Chicago, Punk's hometown. Unsurprisingly, the crowd greeted the return of the enigmatic wrestler with overwhelming enthusiasm on both occasions.

Curiously, though, while Omega, the Young Bucks, and "Hangman" Adam Page featured in a pre-taped segment on "Dynamite," no members of The Elite were present in Chicago. Sources within AEW suggest that the underlying tension between Punk and members of The Elite stems from Punk's complicated history with Colt Cabana.

Punk and Cabana were once close friends, but their relationship soured due to legal disputes. There is a prevailing belief within AEW that Punk may have requested Cabana's removal from the AEW roster. However, both Punk and AEW President Tony Khan have vehemently denied such claims.

As the wrestling world eagerly awaits further developments, it remains to be seen how this backstage conflict will unfold. The aftermath of Punk's return continues to be shrouded in speculation, with fans and industry insiders alike eager to witness the next chapter in this intriguing saga.
