Bully Ray Claims AEW Gives CM Punk 'Cena-Level' Treatment

WWE Hall of Famer, Bully Ray, recently expressed his view that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is casting CM Punk in a role resembling that of Punk's foremost adversary, John Cena, in their storytelling narrative. He shared his observations on "Busted Open Radio," adding color to his argument by reflecting on Punk's bout against Satoshi Kojima.

"I was quite captivated by the Kojima versus Punk matchup, and I can't shake the feeling that AEW is giving Punk the Cena treatment," Bully Ray mused. According to him, Satoshi Kojima served as an apt rival for the erstwhile AEW World Champion, CM Punk.

Bully Ray further elucidated that Punk's position in the wrestling universe is causing a split among the fanbase, similar to the divide Cena had incited during his zenith at WWE.

Punk's Polarizing Audience Impact

Bully Ray delved deeper into his analysis, adding, "Punk manages to evoke a potent emotional response, regardless of whether fans adore or despise him.

Presently, we have a dual scenario playing out with Punk: He has a segment of the audience that wants to see him and cheer, while another fraction will purchase tickets with the sole intention to jeer at him. What's the unifying factor? They're all buying tickets." In Bully Ray's view, Punk is effectively adopting a "Loose Cannon" style, akin to that of the late and revered Brian Pillman, famous for his tendency to defy convention during his tumultuous tenure in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), and WWE.

With Punk, "you're never quite certain about the outcome," Bully commented. He hypothesized that Punk might not even be operating with a preordained script, leaving AEW President Tony Khan guessing about his next move or proclamation.

In a display of his raw prowess, CM Punk emerged victorious in his clash with Kojima at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday. This win solidified his progression to the second round of the prestigious Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament.
