All Elite Wrestling's (AEW) renowned fighter, Jon Moxley, is setting his sights high as he seeks to accomplish a feat that no other wrestler has achieved before. Following a triumphant Final Death match victory on NJPW STRONG's Independence Day, Moxley expressed his intention to vie for the prestigious IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, presently held by SANADA, during his interaction with Tokyo Sports.
Moxley, a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion (now known as the WWE Championship) and AEW World Champion, has yet to add the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to his collection of achievements. "None have held all three titles, and I intend to be the first," Moxley stated confidently, adding, "My imagination can already picture a fight against SANADA, with me as the IWGP World Champion."
Moxley's String of Victories
Moxley has been demonstrating formidable prowess recently, with his successful singles matches against El Desperado, Tomohiro Ishii, and Kenny Omega in a riveting steel cage bout last May.
The latter win has sparked an intense feud between Blackpool Combat Club and The Elite, yet Moxley has skillfully managed to divide his time between these clashes and his commitments in Japan. In addition to SANADA and the coveted IWGP Championship, Moxley also found time to comment on the G1 Climax debut of Shota Umino, his former protégé.
"Youth is a weapon," he noted, recalling his own experiences of physical strain during his G1 days. "Younger competitors can recover faster. I urge them to fully concentrate on the match at hand, without diverting their focus towards semi-finals or finals." This year's G1 Climax, the largest ever, runs from July 15 to August 13.
Umino isn't the only one associated with Moxley participating; Eddie Kingston, the recent NJPW Strong Openweight Championship winner, is also making his first appearance. While Moxley's upcoming involvement in NJPW remains unconfirmed, it is clear that he is far from done with the promotion.
His determined gaze is locked on the IWGP Championship and a potential showdown with SANADA may be on the horizon, if Moxley has his way.
