Bully Ray: AEW Fails to Capitalize on Keith Lee's Strengths

In the aftermath of WWE's surprising release of Keith Lee in November 2021, fans and experts alike lamented the missed opportunities for the talented wrestler. With impressive accolades such as being a former "NXT" Champion and North American Champion, as well as defeating established World Champions like The Miz, Randy Orton, Bobby Lashley, and Sheamus on the main roster, Lee seemed destined for greatness.

However, even in his new home of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Bully Ray, a renowned wrestling veteran, believes that Lee is not being utilized to his full potential. Expressing his thoughts on SiriusXM's "Busted Open," Bully Ray voiced his concerns about Lee's diminishing impact.

He suggested that someone like Mark Henry should step up and reignite Lee's fire, reminding him of his past achievements and untapped potential. Lee's recent outing on "AEW Dynamite" saw him team up with his rival Swerve Strickland, only to suffer defeat against the duo of Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team tournament.

Rather than showing frustration, Lee engaged in friendly gestures with his opponents, although his amusement was largely due to Strickland's expense.

AEW Falls Short in Leveraging Lee's Strengths

Bully Ray emphasized that AEW is failing to tap into Lee's strengths and strategic advantages.

He pointed out that Lee's most memorable match, in his opinion, was against Dijakovic in NXT, where both competitors showcased their incredible abilities. According to Bully, AEW's creative team, including Tony Khan, seems to lack a deep understanding of how to effectively book and write for Lee, leaving him without a compelling storyline or platform to shine.

Regrettably, Lee's appearances in singles matches have been scarce this year, with only one bout against Chris Jericho on an April episode of "Dynamite," which ended in defeat for Lee. This lack of significant solo opportunities further accentuates the concern over AEW's underutilization of his potential.

As fans and wrestling enthusiasts eagerly await Keith Lee's resurgence, there is a growing sense that AEW needs to take a proactive approach in unlocking his true capabilities. Harnessing his charisma, athleticism, and remarkable in-ring skills could potentially elevate Lee to the status he deserves, captivating audiences and reestablishing him as a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional wrestling.
