This week, "AEW Dynamite" rolled out the red carpet for the debut of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre death match, adding yet another chapter to its storied entertainment roster. But as much as the match captured the audience’s attention, the behind-the-scenes action was just as riveting.
Sources from Fightful Select have indicated that the backstage area during the "Dynamite" and "AEW Rampage" tapings in Nashville, Tennessee, was brimming with surprise guests. David Arquette, the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion who seamlessly transitioned to a Hollywood actor, was among the notable personalities present.
Fans will recall that Arquette's wrestling resurgence in 2018 wasn’t a solo effort. He often lauds AEW's own Colt Cabana, Ethan Page, Jack Perry, and "Pretty" Peter Avalon as the driving forces behind his return to the ring.
Summer Rae Eyes AEW Debut
However, Arquette wasn’t the lone non-AEW talent in attendance. Summer Rae, formerly of WWE fame, also made her presence felt. In past discussions with "The Wrestling Classic," Rae expressed a keen interest in managing the ex-AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Lucha Bros.
Furthermore, if the stars align for her to wrestle in AEW, she'd choose none other than the International Champion Orange Cassidy as her dream tag team companion. Rae's last in-ring action was seen at the 2022 WWE Women's Royal Rumble.
In a more personal reunion, CJ Perry, widely recognized by WWE fans as Lana was spotted backstage. Her visit was perhaps less surprising given her husband, Miro’s, ongoing engagement with "AEW Collision." An interesting tidbit from Fightful points out that the couple owns a residence in Nashville, adding a touch of hometown flavor to her visit.
In another backstage revelation, the former TBS Champion Jade Cargill was reportedly seen during the August 9 "Dynamite" episode in Columbus, Ohio. Since her setback against Kris Statlander at Double or Nothing in May, Cargill's wrestling appearances have been sparse.
Fightful’s insiders confirm she remains under contract and her absence is a pre-planned hiatus. Interestingly, when a curious fan recently inquired about her return to AEW, her response was a cryptic "no", hinting that she might be diversifying her portfolio beyond the wrestling realm.
