At the electrifying AEW Dynamite Grand Slam event held in New York City, Eddie Kingston, a local hero, defended his NJPW Strong Openweight Championship against the ROH World Champion, Claudio Castagnoli, in a Champion vs.

Champion showdown. The spirited bout, marked by intense exchanges and several nearfalls, had the audience rallying behind their New York native, Kingston. Kingston's resounding victory was sealed with a decisive spinning back fist followed by a powerful powerbomb, securing him the ROH World Title for the very first time.

Displaying exemplary sportsmanship, Castagnoli extended his hand in acknowledgment and presented Kingston with the prestigious ROH World Title. An elated Kingston soaked in the moment, celebrating this milestone amidst the deafening cheers of the NYC enthusiasts.

This victory, without a doubt, stands as a pinnacle in Kingston’s illustrious 20-year wrestling tenure. However, the euphoria is short-lived as another challenge looms on the horizon. During the AEW Collision event, Kingston threw down the gauntlet to the ROH Pure Champion, Katsuyori Shibata.

The duel is slated for the AEW WrestleDream PPV, scheduled for October 1st in Seattle. In his proclamation, Kingston cited the reverence Antonio Inoki holds for Shibata, vowing to stake his two titles at WrestleDream, while making it clear that Shibata's ROH Pure Championship would remain unchallenged.

Kingston's Championship Hiatus

As Eddie Kingston revels in his dual championship status, encompassing both the ROH World and NJPW Strong Openweight titles, he has decided to momentarily step away from the independent wrestling circuit.

Addressing his fans via Instagram, Kingston conveyed this decision, citing the need to focus on his primary championship obligations. He also shed light on a prevailing lower back ailment, emphasizing his intent to recuperate and be combat-ready for the upcoming NJPW strong events and the AEW trilogy.

Kingston’s statement read: “In light of my dual championship status with NJPW and ROH, I've made the difficult choice to take a hiatus from independent wrestling. Currently grappling with a lower back issue, my top priority is to heal, ensuring I'm primed for all scheduled NJPW and AEW matches.

I hope to rejoin the independent circuit once my tenure as the dual champion concludes. My heartfelt apologies for any disappointment, and I remain committed to delivering stellar performances on the grand stages." Eddie Kingston's ascendancy in the wrestling realm is a testament to his indomitable spirit, ensuring his legacy remains etched in the annals of wrestling history.
