In a candid conversation on the Battleground podcast, wrestling superstar Adam Copeland(Edge), better known to fans as Edge, opened up about the stark differences in the creative processes at All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

His comments shed light on the nuanced approaches both organizations take in crafting compelling storylines and characters. "Every creative process has its strengths and weaknesses. I've been fortunate to have considerable creative latitude in my career.

As a performer, it's crucial to be invested in what you're portraying," Edge remarked. He emphasized the importance of authenticity, stating, "If the individual behind the character can connect with some element of truth in the narrative, it makes the fiction more compelling."

Edge on Storytelling

Edge went on to describe the experience of being closely involved in the storyline development.

"It's incredibly rewarding to be part of the brainstorming sessions, meticulously piecing together how the narrative could unfold. The level of involvement is more feasible on a week-to-week basis," he explained. Contrasting this with sporadic appearances, the WWE Hall of Famer noted the challenges of being significantly engaged in the creative aspects.

"Popping in every few months makes it tough to maintain that level of creative input. It disrupts the continuity and makes it challenging to have a tangible impact on the storyline," he elaborated. His commentary raises intriguing questions about how these differing approaches might affect the on-screen product and, by extension, the fan experience.

As wrestling evolves, with AEW and WWE being major players in the industry, understanding the backstage mechanisms becomes ever more critical for fans and analysts alike. Edge's candid remarks provide an invaluable look into the often opaque creative processes of wrestling's two dominant organizations, AEW and WWE.

His observations are not just enlightening but serve as a springboard for deeper discussions among fans, industry commentators, and insiders, enriching the ongoing discourse about the future and direction of professional wrestling.
