Matt Hardy was at one time one of the best tag team wrestlers in the world. After leaving the WWE, Matt Hardy joined AEW during the pandemic era. Matt Hardy was immediately put into a feud with Chris Jericho who was at that time one of the top stars in AEW.
AEW lacked a lot of star power during its early days. Many people believe that AEW has become a kind of retirement home for WWE wrestlers. Tony Khan regularly signs WWE wrestlers that are past their primes. Tony Khan has also been criticized for not handling the WWE wrestlers properly.
It appears that Matt Hardy is not happy with how Tony Khan is handling him. Matt Hardy still has a lot of star power, however, he is not being used in AEW as frequently as he believe he should. Matt Hardy expressed his frustration on his podcast.
This was after Britt Baker, another popular AEW star, expressed her frustration for not getting enough live promo time on AEW as well. WWE Hall of Famer, Bully Ray, spoke about the stars on the Busted Open Radio. "If I'm Matt Hardy, and I'm one-half of the Hardy Boys, one of the greatest tag teams still walking the planet and a tag team that will go down in history, I am definitely wondering to myself, 'Why are we being used the way we're being used?'" Bully said.
Bully Ray also stated that he doesn’t think Matt Hardy made a mistake by talking about his frustrations on his podcast. However, it is slightly strange that Bully said that. This is because Bully Ray stated previously that Britt should not have spoken about her frustrations publicly.
According to Bully, Britt should have spoken about her issues directly to Tony Khan and shouldn’t have spoken about it publicly. According to Bully, speaking about issues publicly can upset some fans. According to Eric Bischoff, who is also a WWE Hall of Famer, all of the issues that wrestlers have with Tony Khan can be resolved if Tony Khan focused more on the issues.
Eric also believes that Tony Khan should hire a professional to handle the storytelling and development of AEW. Many believe that Tony Khan is running AEW to the ground these days.
