In the dynamic world of professional wrestling, the anticipated collaboration between Mercedes Mone, previously recognized as Sasha Banks, and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) seems to be dissolving into uncertainty. Insights from Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp, during a recent Q&A session, suggest a shift in the trajectory of Mone's association with AEW.

Sapp revealed that the initial plans for Mone in AEW have stalled, marking a significant deviation from earlier expectations. The wrestling community had been abuzz since Mone's conspicuous presence at AEW's "Zero Hour" pre-show for the All In event last August.

There, despite grappling with an ankle injury, Mone's appearance in the audience was highlighted with an on-screen graphic, sparking speculations about her future engagements. This injury occurred shortly after her tenure with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and STARDOM, adversely impacting her in-ring performance.

A notable instance was her match against Willow Nightingale for the newly minted NJPW Strong Women's Championship in May, where Mone reportedly had to improvise the match's outcome, leading to Nightingale's victory.

Mone's AEW Deal Stalls

Prior to her injury, rumors were rife about Mone's potential appearance at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.

Following her appearance at "Zero Hour," discussions about a formal alliance between Mone and AEW were reportedly underway. Sources at the time were optimistic, with some indicating that a deal was being actively pursued. However, recent developments suggest that these discussions have not materialized into a definitive agreement.

Mone's journey in the wrestling world has been marked by notable achievements and dramatic turns. Her departure from WWE in May 2022, alongside her tag team partner Trinity (formerly Naomi), was a topic of considerable discussion.

The duo's exit, followed by an indefinite suspension without pay and eventual release, ended Mone's illustrious chapter with WWE. During her time there, she not only claimed the WWE women's championship seven times but also secured the women's tag team championship on three occasions.

As the situation stands, there are no concrete updates on any ongoing negotiations between Mone and WWE. Moreover, her high financial expectations have been a talking point in the industry. The wrestling world continues to watch closely, eager to see where Mone's remarkable talent and charisma will lead her next in this ever-evolving landscape of professional wrestling.
