In a surprising revelation, Colten Gunn, a current star in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and son of WWE legend Billy Gunn, disclosed why he sought advice from WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi rather than his own father when he decided to venture into professional wrestling.

This disclosure came during Colten's recent interview with Dynamite Download, shedding light on his unconventional entry into the wrestling world. The journey of Colten Gunn in the wrestling arena began in 2020, marking his debut in AEW Dark, where he fought alongside his father, Billy Gunn, and brother, Austin Gunn.

However, the path to this debut was anything but typical. Colten recounted the pivotal moment when his interest in wrestling peaked, leading him to seek guidance outside his family circle. "I remember Austin and my dad were in AEW doing their thing, and then I just kept seeing my mind wandering to wrestling," Colten shared.

Colten's Secret Visit

Intrigued by the wrestling world but eager to carve his own path, Colten reached out to Rikishi, who operated a wrestling school in Los Angeles. "I called Rikishi and he had a school out in LA. I was like, 'Hey, do you mind if I come by real quick? Don't tell anybody who I am, I'll just come by and see how I'm feeling.

Don't tell my dad, don't tell Austin whatever,'" he said. Despite his attempt at anonymity, Colten's resemblance to his father was undeniable, quickly revealing his identity at Rikishi's school. The decision to contact Rikishi instead of his father initially led to a strained conversation.

Colten recalls his father's reaction: "He was pretty mad at first like, 'Why would you not call me, what are you doing?' and I'm like, 'I don't know, I just wanted to do it on my own, see if like I was just thinking about it or I really wanted to do it.'

" Colten's journey in wrestling quickly accelerated following his initial exploration. After taking a brief hiatus from his job in Los Angeles, he joined the Flatbacks wrestling school in Orlando. This was followed by a stint at the Nightmare Factory, culminating in his debut on AEW Dark.

Colten Gunn's story is not just about a wrestler's debut; it's a narrative of forging one's own path in a legacy industry, illustrating the unique challenges and triumphs faced by the offspring of wrestling royalty.
