In a conversation with TV Insider, Awesome Kong shared how nervous she had been ahead of her All Elite Wrestling (AEW) debut in their 25th May event, Double or Nothing. She also said that she worked quite hard to keep her appearance in the event a secret.
At the same time, the 41-year-old wrestler was also worried that people would have forgotten about her because of her lengthy absence from the ring. Speaking about her nervousness before stepping into the ring, the wrestler's whose real name is Kia Michelle Stevens said that Diamond Dallas Page helped tackle it.
She said, "I mean he squared me up shoulder-to-shoulder. He looked me dead in the eye with his piercing blue eyes and gave me this pep talk about positive thinking. How I should read his book, and how I am who I am, and I know who I am.
He told me I was going to go out there and kill it. It was exactly what I needed. This was not even three or four minutes before I walked out there. I was like, 'Yes!' This is what I needed to summon Kong. She is finally here."
Lastly, Kong said that AEW was an ideal platform for her to make her return to the pro-wrestling world. But despite the allure of AEW, Kong said she is still a free agent and that her fans will see her around more often in the days to come.
"I've always kind of been that rebel in wrestling. This promotion is kind of that exciting rebel in a way."
