The surprise, of of course, was that Paige VanZant is sticking around at All Elite Wrestling (AEW) for the entire duration of the episodes, to her fans' bewilderment. This has come following a decision by AEW President Tony Khan to make a series of roster cuts, apparently for budgetary considerations.

Despite widespread speculation and the resultant shake-up, the status of VanZant in the Jacksonville-based organization remains unchanged. VanZant has competed in the event since she made her debut in 2021, and in 2022, at Double or Nothing, they emerged victorious when she teamed with Men of The Year (Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky) to defeat Frankie Kazarian, Sammy Guevara, and Tay Melo in a match.

The decision to keep VanZant, a one-fight veteran at the time she was running the show, elicited debate and, at the same time, took many by surprise from the social media platforms of AEW faithful. Esteemed wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer said the bigger meaning of Khan's decision was likely reflected in the move during a segment of Wrestling Observer Radio.

AEW's Unexpected Cuts

Meltzer emphasized that Khan has a history of not wanting to release talent at any time, and weighed in heavily on the fact that all athletes' contracts will be honored for the entire length of the agreement.

This policy change, therefore, raises a few questions in the mind in regards to the strategic direction of AEW and possible implications for the strength of the promotion's roster stability. Other names that have reportedly lost their jobs in the most recent cuts are Assistant Jose, Parker Bjson, Boudreaux, Stu Grayson, Dasha Gonzalez, Anthony Henry, Slim J, Brandon Tate, Brent Tate, Gravity, and Jora Johl.

All this really underlines that the wrestling world is a fickle business, and you need to be adaptable if you want to survive in it. While Ajson Kong and AEW still struggle through these choppy financial waters, to keep Paige VanZant on, one thing it does signal: unpredictability at play with fluid dynamics in today's professional wrestling competitive landscape.

Of course, fans and anyone with an insider understanding will be watching exactly how these play out in practice and affect AEW's long-term talent roster and creative direction.
