Eric Bischoff, the former president of WCW, had to make very difficult decisions during the Monday Night Wars. He had to hire and fire people on a regular basis. He also had to deal with backstage issues and politics. Eric has been one of AEW’s biggest critics.

He has criticized almost everything that Tony has done, and believes that Tony is a very bad booker.

However, Tony recently made one of his only ‘boss’ moves since he started the company.

He recently released a large number of AEW talents, including the famous Anthony Henry, before their contracts expired. Tony was previously against releasing any talent before the expiration of their contracts. On a media call, Tony stated that he had to make this tough decision to help the company grow as they required budget cuts.

Eric commented on this. According to Eric this might be a new direction for the company, and Tony might need to make a lot of difficult decisions such as these to make the company profitable. Reportedly, AEW has not made any money since it was founded in 2019.

Eric stated that this move is kind of hypocritical on Tony’s part as he stated that he will never release anyone. "It's probably really smart; it may be the only second or third smart thing that Tony has done now in a while.

The sad thing is — I don't mean any offense — but I never heard of any one of them." Following this, Bischoff offered some advice to the released talent, and suggested that Khan actually did them all a favor. "By that, my new favorite saying: 'Comfort is a thief.'

It's very easy to get comfortable getting a check every two weeks without any pressure, it's hard not to get comfortable, but it's stealing from you too, because you're not doing anything." He also praised Tony for having a very successful All In 2023 event.

According to Eric, the releases are the first hard business decision that Tony had to take, and Eric believes that Tony will need to make similar decisions in the future to make AEW successful. "I take it as a positive. This is apparently a decision that now suggests there is now an emphasis on not spending that kind'a money and just playing in the sandbox."
