Rob Van Dam is mostly known for being one of the most athletic wrestlers ever. He started wrestling in 1990, and became one of the most popular wrestlers in the world almost a decade later. He was mainly known for his work in ECW, before he joined the WWE. He has worked for WCW, WWE, WCW, TNA, and even AEW. Even though he is one of the most respected people in the industry, he spoke about a controversy that tarnished the revival of ECW. He spoke about it on The Black Announce Table.
Rob Van Dam Talks About A Big Controversy That May Have Effected ECW's Revival
"I'm in Hanging Rock, Ohio, I'm driving careless – because I was so careless back then, I never really looked at the speedometer," he admitted. They (Sabu and RVD) went over 80mph, and a police vehicle started chasing them. After they caught sight of the police vehicle, they pulled over. At that time RVD told Sabu to spray ozium in the car. However, Sabu didn’t spray enough, and the police officer smelled inside the car.
"I would have grabbed that ozium, inconspicuously, and went [makes lengthy spraying sounds] and then when the cop said 'Why does it smell like air freshener?' I would have said 'Sabu farted!'" Van Dam claimed.
According to RVD, he kind of understood why Sabu didn’t spray enough. Sabu probably did not want the policeman to feel too suspicious. RVD then revealed that they were not smoking marijuana in the car. However, it was in the center console, which made the entire car smell like marijuana.
"For eternity there are certain fans, like in their mind, they always go 'Stupid Rob and Sabu smoking while they were driving, otherwise ECW wouldn't have went down!' That's not even how it happened."
Rob Van Dam is near the end of his career. We saw him perform at AEW on many occasions. Even though he wrestles very well, he has lost most of his athleticism due to his age. That being said, many people believe that he can still wrestle quite well. RVD is not working for any big promotion and he has not been part of any main even storyline for a very long time.
In the WWE, he managed to win the Intercontinental title. He could never reach the top of the WWE, but was still part of some interesting storylines, that gave him a very prominent position in the company.
