AEW tough guy Eddie Kingston isn't the type to make reality easy to swallow. However, in the newest teasers, The Mad King has removed the curtain on an internal conflict that is as raw as any promotion he has ever recorded.

As he prepares to enter the squared circle once again, it is important to note that ever since he sustained a crushing injury in his leg in May 2024, a broken tibia, blown ACL, meniscus during a tournament against Gabe Kidd on NJPW STRONG Resurgence, his body, not to mention, his mind has not been his trusty ally.

Kingston was not afraid to speak frankly in a recent appearance on the Wrestling With The Narrative podcast.

"A physical and mental feeling that he described as feeling like sh-t, the latter of which was expressed when he stated, I feel like sh-t mentally. That is why I am just trying to be a better individual every day, you know what I mean?”

The journey to recovery has not been smooth. His physical therapy was postponed due to insurance discrepancies and when he was about to get in, along came stomach disorders and problematic surgery, and more waiting time. His general practitioner said, How are you doing with stress? [laughs] I replied, What kind of time do you have? Do we call a psychologist in here?

Wrestling Absence Takes a Toll

Wrestling is a blessing to Kingston as it is not a job as he makes it out to be. Missing the ring has proved to be a huge emotional slap.

He said, "It has been pretty hard on my head not to have that. I am really thankful that I have a good lady and I have good friends around me. I got good people, I do, good people.” With the support, the lack has proved to be tough.

He joked about his untidy look saying that he is in his Brody era in reference to wrestling icon Bruiser Brody.

Kingston is light in-ring training, such as rope running, as of June 2025, but he is sure: "I am not there." When he will make a complete comeback is not clear yet and fans are looking forward to his comeback.

He is straightforward about the struggles of injury and mental health, which allows us not to forget that there is a human being behind the performer.
