In the episode of AEW Dynamite aired on Wednesday, the son of the American Dream seems to have injured his shoulder. The unfortunate incident occurred during a tag team match that saw him team up with Lee Johnson to face Peter Avalon and Cezar Bononi.
The two managed to easily bring home the victory, but Cody Rhodes was repeatedly sore at ringside, touching his left shoulder. His manager, Hall of Famer Arn Anderson, also intervened on the matter, saying on social media: "The AEW medical staff confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered a slight strain on his rotator cuff during his match.
His status, at the moment, remains to be determined and evaluated carefully."
Cody Rhodes injured on AEW Dynamite
Many have pointed out on social media how Cody Rhodes's injury can actually be the result of a well-orchestrated storyline and fuel a possible turn heel, which has been rumored for months now.
The timing of the event appears, in fact, very suspicious: the former TNT Champion should face Shaquille O'Neal in several weeks at AEW Dynamite and it is highly unlikely that Tony Khan's company will mess up a long-publicized match.
We remind you how in recent years Cody has been the protagonist of a long legal battle with the WWE for the rights to his surname and that, only last November, he finally managed to get hold of it, returning to his name Rhodes.
WWE and AEW had also clashed over the trademarks associated with some WCW PPVs. The Stamford Company had also teased Cody during an episode of SmackDown in July 2020 where, on the occasion of a karaoke that he had discussed, the entrance music of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes was started.
A choice undoubtedly desired and not thrown at random. Given the abrupt way the two sides broke up, it seems very unlikely that Cody will decide to return to Stamford in the future especially given his role as AEW executive vice president and the paternity that awaits him in the future.
In fact, his partner Brandi announced a few weeks ago that she was pregnant. During Arn Anderson’s Coach’s Corner video, The Enforcer said that Cody dinged his shoulder. Wrestling Inc reports that AEW provided a statement which confirmed a shoulder injury took place.
Hopefully, Cody Rhodes will not miss much time. He has a big mixed tag team match against Shaquille O’Neal in a couple of weeks. The American Nightmare also tweeted out a bandaged up emoji to let fans know where he’s at right now.
