Women Of Wrestling, or briefly called WOW, is an all-female professional wrestling promotion, founded in the United States by David McLane in 2000 with the aim of offering wrestling female wrestlers a spot in the spotlight.
This promotion is returning and apparently will do so in 2022 with two prominent figures announced for the collaboration, with two very different roles, which have made wrestling fans argue, for better or for worse. We are talking about AJ Mendez (AJ Lee), who will be among the executive producers and will also be the commentator and Tessa Blanchard, who will fight instead.
The company has also made history by signing a multi-year contract with ViacomCBS for the distribution of the product which is expected to start in autumn 2022, with past episodes available on the CW Reed and Pluto TV platforms in December of this year.
The details of the new Women Of Wrestling (WOW)
Owner and executive producer, Jeanie Buss, said in her statement to ET: "The introduction of women by wrestling has long been very important to me, and now we are presenting the quintessence in sports entertainment that will highlight the athleticism of these superstars as we reintroduce Women Of Wrestling.
Our partnership with the entire Viacomcbs Global Distribution Group family allows us to continue our mission to provide wrestling and WOW Superheroes fans with what they all deserve: a global platform for a league dedicated to women's wrestling."
In addition in the official statement about Women Of Wrestling (WOW) released to Fightful, it is added: “Former WWE world champion and New York Times bestselling author of Crazy Is My Superpower AJ Mendez will provide commentary during each broadcast, which will see the return of the world champion, The Beast and former world champion Tessa Blanchard on the square."
As for AJ Mendez, the public was supportive and said he was happy to see her again in this business, which did not happen to Tessa Blanchard due to the past problems that led many companies to define her as dangerous. Triple H went on to make a bold proclamation by saying if someone wants to wrestle the best female talent in the world, they need to come to WWE because that's where they are.
He also said the best women's wrestlers are in WWE, and if they aren't, they are looking to be a part of the company. "Yeah, if you want to wrestle the best women in the world, come to the WWE. That's where they are," Triple H stated.
"If you want to go elsewhere and say that they are, that's an opinion. And you can, but it is what it is, and while I'm all for it. I was one of the biggest drivers of it."
