In a momentous revelation on Saturday evening at the Bound For Glory pay-per-view event, Impact Wrestling dropped a bombshell, announcing its plans to reinvent itself and return to its roots with its original branding, Total Nonstop Action (TNA).
This significant transformation is set to take effect on January 13, 2024, kicking off with the Hard to Kill pay-per-view event, marking a new chapter in the organization's storied history. The announcement was delivered through a compelling video montage at the culmination of Bound For Glory, featuring a mix of both current and legendary figures in the wrestling world.
The video showcased the likes of Eric Young, Frankie Kazarian, Josh Alexander, Gisele Shaw, Knockouts World Champion Trinity, Impact World Champion Alex Shelley, 10-time Impact X-Division Champion Chris Sabin, and the Impact World Tag Team Champions Ace Austin and Chris Bey.
Journey Through Eras
Tracing back its roots, the promotion spent its initial two years under the banner of NWA: Total Nonstop Action. In 2004, it underwent a rebranding, dropping the NWA tag to simply become TNA, a name it retained until 2017 when another transformation took place, birthing Impact Wrestling.
It is noteworthy to mention that in the same year, the brand briefly flirted with the name Global Force Wrestling (GFW), before ultimately reverting to Impact Wrestling. This brief recount encapsulates the rich and tumultuous history of the company.
Anticipation is already building among fans, who, although having to wait until the next year for the official rebranding, can already express their support and excitement as TNA merchandise has hit the shelves, with t-shirts now available for purchase.
In addition to the groundbreaking TNA announcement, Bound For Glory delivered in spades with captivating in-ring action. NJPW star and IWGP United States Champion Will Ospreay showcased his in-ring prowess, securing a victory over Mike Bailey.
The event also featured a surprise appearance from former AEW talent, Sonny Kiss, who participated in the Call Your Shot Gauntlet match, ultimately won by Jordynne Grace. This night was a testament to Impact Wrestling's enduring legacy and its commitment to delivering top-tier entertainment to its global fan base.
