In a stunning turn of events since his unceremonious exit from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), CM Punk made a surprise appearance at IMPACT Wrestling's television taping at Cicero Stadium in Chicago this past Sunday. This comes on the heels of AEW's CEO Tony Khan taking the extraordinary step of addressing CM Punk’s firing on national television during AEW Collision, stating that he felt his "life was in danger" following a backstage altercation between Punk and fellow wrestler Jack Perry.

Rumors have been swirling about CM Punk possibly making a WWE comeback ever since his AEW departure. However, as of the latest reports, WWE seems to have closed the door on that opportunity, at least for the time being.

Punk's IMPACT Visit

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has reiterated that Punk joining IMPACT Wrestling remains a long shot.

But sources confirm that Punk did seem to enjoy his time at the IMPACT taping, mingling comfortably with many backstage. Notably, Punk's long-time friend and trainer, Ace Steel, recently joined IMPACT as a Producer, fueling speculation that Steel’s hiring might be a strategic move aimed at wooing Punk to the brand.

Fightful also pointed out the financial hurdles IMPACT would face in any attempt to sign Punk. In AEW, Punk was reportedly earning 15-20 times more than many of IMPACT's top talent, which could present a significant obstacle for the promotion.

Yet, there's no ruling out that the allure of wrestling with talents like Josh Alexander or the Motor City Machine Guns—comprised of IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley and X-Division Champion Chris Sabin—might entice Punk to consider such a move under the right circumstances.

As IMPACT Wrestling prepares for its rebranding as TNA in January 2024, the addition of a star of CM Punk's caliber would undoubtedly make headlines and draw viewers. While the financials may be a challenge, and despite current rumors deeming it unlikely, the wrestling world knows better than to count out any possibilities—especially where CM Punk is concerned.
