Matt Taven on his heel persona

Matt Taven has competed in Ring of Honor since 2012, most recently as a member of The Kingdom, as well as performing across the Northeastern United States independent circuit. Taven was the winner of ROH's 2013 Top Prospect Tournament, is a former one-time World Television Champion, one-time ROH World Tag Team Champion with Michael Bennett and one-third of the first ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions.

Taven has also worked for the Japanese promotion New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he is a former one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with Bennett. Taven is also the second wrestler to win titles in ROH, CMLL and NJPW after Rocky Romero.

Taven and Bennett operate a wrestling school in West Warwick, Rhode Island. During a long interview with Sporting News, Taven commented on his heel persona: “Let people hate me all they want. It works. To me, I’m just myself.

I’m having a great time. I wanted to be a wrestler since I was six years old. I’m the Ring of Honor World Champion right now. How am I not ecstatic? I go back to this moment at MSG where I’ve gotten the title and I’m standing on the ladder and I look up at the TitanTron smiling and there’s a big sign that says ‘Madison Square Garden’ and there’s just my face with this big Cheshire grin. That’s me right now. People are booing and I’m just having the time of my life”.
