On Friday night SmackDown aired from Houston in front of a live audience and among the many matches also witnessed the defense of the women's title by Bianca Belair. In fact, until last week, she was supposed to defend her SmackDown title against Bayley, but that changed with the injury of the Role Model.
The former champion of the blue brand injured her knee and was also operated on yesterday, with an expected rest period of at least nine months, so Sonya Deville had to find a replacement and they opted for Carmella, who is was removed from the Money In The Bank Ladder Match and entered into a titled match for July 16.
Belair retained her title against Carmella on this week’s SmackDown
The match between Carmella and Bianca Belair last night was an excellent match, with the audience really hot, all on the side of the champion, who came out victorious from this contest, keeping the title.
Immediately after the match, however, Carmella complained, through her Twitter account, of the final result, accusing EST of being a person who cheats and adding that the matter is not over yet between them. Bianca, a guest at Talking Smack, responded to this provocation: “Typical of Carmella.
She said she had six days to get ready. People love to go on Twitter and talk about the fact that they aren't worried when they are, which is fine. She stepped into the ring with me tonight, so all I can say is that I'm a champion and I don't hold back from anything.
So if she wants a rematch, let's do it again next week. I'm 100% there. Let's do it... I'm saying, be careful what you ask because now I'll give it to you Carmella, next week." So the rematch will take place on July 23 at SmackDown, with Bianca still being kept off the Money In The Bank card.
Bianca Belair was originally due to defend her title against long-term rival Bayley at WWE Money in the Bank on July 18. However, Bayley suffered a serious injury while training last week, ruling her out of in-ring action for nine months.
The finish to the Belair vs. Carmella match saw the SmackDown Women’s Champion use her ponytail to whip Carmella. She then followed up with her Kiss of Death finisher to seal the victory. Belair has held the SmackDown Women’s Championship since defeating Sasha Banks in the main event of the first night of WrestleMania 37.
Meanwhile, Carmella has not held the title since losing it to Charlotte Flair in a Triple Threat match – also involving Becky Lynch – at SummerSlam 2018.
