A lot has changed since the last Pay Per View of Money in the Bank in the upper floors of Friday Night Smackdown. At the end of that show intervened, amid general disbelief, the WWE legend John Cena who openly challenged Roman Reigns.
After that event, many things have changed and in the penultimate episode of Smackdown Cena has literally 'stolen' the opportunity entitled to Finn Balor. In the Main Event of the blue show Roman Reigns and Finn Balor had to sign the contract for SummerSlam, but Baron Corbin surprisingly attacked the former NXT champion and the leader of the Chain's Gang intervened and signed in his place.
This week we have seen the evolution of the situation in Smackdown. In the Main Event Finn Balor beat Baron Corbin in a few minutes and then Roman Reigns intervened, after a verbal clash the Usos attacked the wrestler from behind and after a reaction from Balor at the end the Tribal Chief and his family legitimized the advantage of 3 men against 1.
In this television episode John Cena did not intervene at all.
Latest news on John Cena and Roman Reigns
Although John Cena did not participate in the TV show, the wrestler, starring in the Suicide Squad 2 movie these days, fought after the Smackdown episode and participated in a Six-Tag Team Match.
Cena, paired with Rey and Dominik Mysterio, won against Roman Reigns and Usos. In the final, Reigns tried to close with the Spear but Cena disgusted her and closed with the Attitude Adjustement to the delight of the audience.
John Cena is expected on the TV show next week and we will see further evidence of the feud with Roman Reigns in the fight for the WWE Universal Championship. Cena and Roman Reigns will certainly face each other at SummerSlam but there is curiosity if this will be a Singles Match one vs one and if in one way or another Finn Balor will also be included in the match and it will be a Triple Threat Match.
Little is missing but SummerSlam is getting closer and closer. The finish to WWE SmackDown saw Finn Balor quickly defeat Baron Corbin before making it clear that he still wants a Universal Championship match. On last week’s episode, Balor was due to sign a contract to face Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam.
However, after the Irishman was attacked by Corbin, John Cena ended up signing the contract instead to set up a SummerSlam match against Reigns.
