Jim Ross has been an important face of the WWE for a very long time, having left an indelible imprint thanks to his unique and unmistakable style. A series of differences led to the division between the parties, with a lot of controversial aftermath in the following years.
JR has in fact become the new commentator of All Elite Wrestling, which has proposed itself as the great rival of the WWE on the initiative of Tony Khan and Cody Rhodes. AEW has hired numerous stars who previously served in the Stamford-based federation, and there are rumors of the imminent arrival of two bona fide giants such as Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.
During the latest edition of his podcast, a fan asked WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross about his current relationship with Vince McMahon.
Jim Ross opens up on Vince McMahon
“I talked to Vince McMahon on my birthday, but our contacts aren't that frequent anymore,” Jim Ross replied.
“Our conversations are now quite short. When I was in WWE we were confronted every single day, even multiple times on the same day. Things have just changed now, what should we talk about? Do you think they give a damn about how I am? Do you think I care how your daily workout at the gym went? The answer is always no.
I'm interested in his health, I'm interested in his well-being, I'm interested in his sanity, but nothing more than that. We exchange a few words on some specific occasions. Since my birthday is close to Christmas, I often get a call from him around that time” - he added.
The relationship between the two is more relaxed than some time ago: “Our relationship is progressing quite well, I don't understand why there is always great curiosity about this aspect. We never discuss business, never really.
I am proud to be able to call him my friend”. The WWE president provided tremendous support to the legendary commentator when JR's wife Jan tragically passed away. JR was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007. On the latest Ask JR Anything segment of the Grilling JR podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross praised SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee.
The legendary commentator believes that McAfee has done a "great job" since being added to the commentary booth. "I like it (Pat McAfee commentating on SmackDown). I think he's a breath of fresh air, he's contemporary, he fits in the scheme of things very well, he's a guy that's fun, respects the wrestling business.
He doesn't sh*t on it, he doesn't look down his nose at it or 'talk down to me' type thing to the audience. I think he's done a great job. He's a good hire."
