Kushida has been cruiserweight champion at NXT for quite some time now, but the problem is that he hasn't defended the belt for months now, in fact, he would have had to face the returning Roderick Strong in August, but the match never took place.
At this point, many fans have wondered what happened to the champion because a little bit of the lack of that belt that before being in his life was kept impeccably by Santos Escobar, perhaps definable one of the best lightweight champions that there have ever been.
Kushida has decided to give an explanation to the whole WWE Universe for this absence and recording a video which he then uploaded to his Instagram account.
Latest update on Kushida
In this video, Kushida announced that he and his family members tested positive for Covid.
He explained that the reason that led him not to defend the title against Strong was precisely the test result positive. Plus the wrestler revealed that his whole family is fine, so he somehow reassured the worried fans and that he is still struggling with various symptoms, but recovering.
Unfortunately, there is still no certain date for his return to NXT and WWE does not seem to want to take the title out of Kushida's life by making it vacant and then giving it to someone else who can take his place until he is allowed to return.
to fight full-time in the ring. The result of the absence of a belt for the men's division, however, is felt enough, with the roster focusing on the North American Champion title and certainly aiming for the NXT title held by Samoa Joe.
We wish Kushida and his entire family a speedy recovery and hope to see him in full health soon to defend his title in an all-new and undiscovered NXT. Tonight's episode of WWE NXT was originally supposed to feature Kushida defending the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Roderick Strong of Diamond Mine.
NXT General Manager William Regal took to social media this afternoon with the unfortunate news. He stated that Kushida has not been medically cleared to compete tonight and that Roderick Strong will have a Diamond Mine open challenge instead.
There is no timetable on when Kushida is scheduled to return to the ring. Also scheduled for WWE NXT tonight will be a confrontation between NXT Champion Karrion Kross and Samoa Joe before their big title match at TakeOver 36.
