Raw's main event was supposed to be different

The last episode of Monday Night Raw saw for most of the episode a 'very long' Tag Team Turmoil Match where several couples of the main players of the red show competed and where the challenger couple of RK-Bro for the Tag Team Champion, for the match scheduled for the next Extreme Rules Pay Per View on September 26th.

In the first part of the show we saw a domination of the former Tag Team Champion, the New Day, who, respectively, beat the Viking Raiders, Jinder Mahal & Mace, the Lucha House Party and T-Bar with Mace. The latter two did not accept the defeat and practically 'blocked' the next match that saw Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston challenge Mustafa Ali and Mansoor.

The remaining challenges of the Tag Team Turmoil Match were played in the second part of the show and then also saw the Main Event.

A different Raw main event

As the PWInsider colleagues report, initially the plans of the Raw creative team did not have to be these: in the company, in fact, the initial goal was to see the whole Turmoil match in the main Event of the evening but in the end it was decided to divide and break up everything for the extended duration of the meetings that would have blocked the show.

The match then continued with the New Day that beat Mustafa Ali and Mansoor but then had to surrender to former couple champions AJ Styles and Omos. The two then lost the Main Event to the pair made up of Hurt Businesses, namely WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and his manager and CEO of the Stable MVP.

This couples feud is part of WWE's plans to better prepare for the WWE Championship match announced for Extreme Rules between champion Bobby Lashley and challenger, The Viper Randy Orton. After several level victories, Lashley will now face one of the toughest commitments since he began his titled adventure.

The New Day and the Viking Raiders kicked off the match and Kingston and Ivar were in the ring. The Viking Raiders managed to isolate Kofi and hit some big moves but the New Day member hit the running knees on Erik and made the tag.

Woods came in and took control of the match, hitting a double-team superkick before sending Erik outside. Kofi went for a dive but the Viking Raiders caught him and tossed Kofi into Woods before we headed for a break.
