Tommaso Ciampa has been one of the cornerstones of NXT since its debut in 2015. He has been involved in a series of high profile feuds during his venture into the 'Black and Gold' brand and his work has been considered excellent by insiders.
On more than one occasion, Ciampa has expressed his reluctance at the prospect of joining the main roster one day. Entry into the main roster is the dream of nearly every WWE superstar, but it hasn't always been synonymous with greater success.
Several examples can be cited of athletes who - after making the jump - are no longer able to fully express their talent. The frenetic programming of Raw and SmackDown is very different from that of NXT, a factor that has led Tommaso to avoid choices that are detrimental to his career.
Within his 'Hall of Fame' podcast, Booker T encouraged Ciampa not to be lured by the sirens coming from the red and blue show.
Booker T opens up on Tommaso Ciampa
“I have the very serious fear that - if Tommaso Ciampa landed on the main roster - he would lose himself in the fray.
At NXT he is a top-level wrestler, he has always played an important role and can help young talents who are not familiar with the WWE universe. He is able to mentor and help the kids move to the next level. I'm not saying that Ciampa doesn't have what it takes to enter the main roster, but I am convinced that he must have a different role from the other superstars.
We are not all destined for the same type of career. A guy like Tommaso Ciampa is perfect for NXT, people have to get over it” - confided Booker T. Ciampa himself had expressed some doubts about his possible arrival on Raw or SmackDown.
“I would need to radically change my physique, as NXT grants us lighter programming. I wouldn't be fit for Raw or SmackDown's schedule. At the same time, traveling for 300 days a year does not excite me particularly."
Last week, WWE NXT took the 10th spot on cable for Wednesday. This week, they dropped slightly to the 11th spot. The numbers dropped slightly across the board for WWE NXT 2.0. Regardless of online opinion, it looks like the fanbase is interested in what WWE NXT 2.0 currently has to offer.
WWE NXT 2.0 opened this week with NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa in the ring with a bunch of new stars, including Bron Breakker, as he addressed the future of the former black and gold brand. This led to interruptions from Cameron Grimes, LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and Ridge Holland.
