On 23 August 2020, during SummerSlam, Dominik Mysterio played his first-ever WWE match accompanied by his father Rey, being defeated by Seth Rollins in a 'Street Fight' Over the next year, the young Mexican-born wrestler proved he has what it takes to become a champion, so much so that he received wonderful compliments from colleagues and insiders.
On May 16 this year, at WrestleMania Backlash, Dominik and Rey beat Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode to win tag team belts for the first time. Their reign ended in SummerSlam on August 21, when they were overwhelmed by the Usos.
On October 1st, due to the Draft, Mysterio was transferred to the Raw roster. In a long interview with Kevin Kellam for Sportskeeda, Dominik touched on various topics related to his career in WWE. He was asked - for example - if there was ever the idea of making his debut with a mask, like his father.
Dominik Mysterio and the problem of the mask
“The WWE management has reflected on this hypothesis, I cannot deny it. When I went to train the first few times, I did it with a mask, so that I was already used to that feeling by the time I made my debut on the main roster.
It is not so easy to understand how to move and how to breathe correctly having a mask that covers your face. The initial plan was to make my debut with the mask, also to respect the Mysterio tradition. The situation changed very quickly, I can't even explain why.
One of the problems was that my face had already been seen on TV in years past, so it didn't make much sense to cover it up. Wearing a mask might have been seen as a kind of handover, but my dad is still busy in the ring.
We will see what happens in the future” - said Dominik Mysterio. The young Mysterio was very excited on the day of his debut: “When my father told me, I thought it was all a joke. The tension was really sky high”.
Last year, Dominik wrestled his very first WWE match against decorated WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. The 24-year-old has just started and is bound to face some of WWE's best talents in the coming years. Dominik discussed his dream opponent while chatting with Sportskeeda: "I'm still the new kid on the block.
It's crazy man; I just had my one-year anniversary. I'm so fresh in this business, so many people I would like to work with. I think the people who stand out to me currently on RAW would be RK-Bro. Just because, man, I would love to get in the ring with Randy, and just learn from him," said Dominik Mysterio.
