After returning to hosting fans in arenas, WWE is trying to implement some changes also on a creative level. The new version of NXT - called 'NXT 2.0' - seems to have satisfied the needs of fans, who in recent months had complained about a poorly original product and too anchored to the logic of the past.
Due to the effects of the global pandemic, the Stamford federation has been forced to release large numbers of wrestlers and behind-the-scenes insiders. As if that were not enough, the AEW has been further strengthened thanks to the arrival of two true champions like CM Punk and Bryan Danielson.
On the eve of 'NXT Halloween Havoc' (staged tonight), Shawn Michaels gave a long interview to Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated. During the conversation, HBK revealed that he is currently directing NXT pending the full recovery of Triple H.
The 14-time world champion is still recovering from a delicate heart operation.
Shawn Michaels on the new NXT
"I'm not trying in any way to take the place of Triple H, it would be impossible" - began Shawn Michaels.
“Everyone here misses him incredibly, especially me. However, health must always take precedence over work. It was a situation where my best friend needed my help, so I'm working hard to run NXT in the best possible way and make him proud of me.
I wanted to thank him for everything he did for me at the beginning of my career. The fact that I take on this responsibility is really a drop in the bucket compared to what he has done for me in the past years. I am honored to have had the chance to pay him back a little.
I want to keep NXT's name high during his absence” - he added. HBK downplayed the recent changes: “I've been doing this job for 35 years now and I can assure you that change is the only constant in the world of wrestling.
I've heard about evolution and updating, but in reality it's still the same team”. WWE's first-ever Grand Slam Champion has a variety of nicknames, HBK being the most popular one. Most of these nicknames are due to his exceptional talent inside the squared circle.
Shawn Michaels is widely referred to as Mr. WrestleMania. Fans and management called him that because of his memorable performances at the grandest stage of them all. He is also called 'The Show Stopper' by his fans.
