George Barrios reflects on WWE’s direct competition

The birth of AEW and the rise of the independent circuit are some of the causes of low ratings recorded by WWE in recent months. In about two months there will be WrestleMania 35, one of the most watched sporting events in the world.

During a recent interview on CNBC, WWE Co-President George Barrios reflected on WWE’s direct competition: “Well in our world, which is entertaining people, everything that puts a smile on someone’s face or gets their attention is a competitor.

I always say the best thing I’ve ever heard was Reed Hastings describing competition. He said sleep is competition. What we hope, we did almost 6 billion hours of video consumed around the world in 2018, is that we can cut through the clutter.

So if we have enough fans saying, ‘Hey I want to get my WWE,’ we think we can cut through the clutter”. The 'Showcase of the Immortals' will take place on April 7, 2019 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Immediately after the Royal Rumble, Rollins confronted Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, who had retained the title at the Royal Rumble against Finn Bálor. After an ensuing brawl, Rollins made his choice that he wanted to face Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania.
