Dutch Mantell comments on Alberto Del Rio

During his WWE career, Alberto Del Rio has twice held the WWE Championship, the heavyweight title and the United States Championship. In 2011, he became the first and only wrestler in the company's history to win both the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank in the same calendar year.

The Mexican wrestler could have achieved even greater success in this business, but his run was often held back by controversial episodes and temperamental excesses. Recently, news leaked that Del Rio would be very close to returning to Vince McMahon's federation.

However, a source very close to WWE denied the indiscretion: "Can you imagine what would happen if we brought people back to the company that we have turned away for valid reasons? There is no possibility of such a thing happening"

Speaking to James Romero for 'WSI', former WWE manager Dutch Mantell recalled the backstage incident that led to Alberto's first release from the company. The former WWE Champion was recruited again in October 2015, only to leave less than a year later.

"A WWE employee had left some items on a table in the restaurant area. When he saw them, Alberto Del Rio had a reaction that no one would have imagined. He got very angry and ended up slapping that boy quite violently.

I don't know if he even knocked him to the ground, but he sure stunned him. WWE had to release him for unprofessional conduct,” Dutch Mantell said. Triple H, executive vice president of WWE, called Alberto and informed him of his firing.

Del Rio was hired again by the company 14 months after the backstage incident. “For some strange reason, Vince McMahon has always had a soft spot for Alberto Del Rio. He liked that guy and he ended up bringing him back shortly after I returned.

This move did not turn out to be particularly appropriate, given that we didn't last long together." Alberto Del Rio has had two stints with the WWE with his last run ending when he was released in September 2016.

The former WWE champion revealed he would be open to a WWE return and a potential Hall of Fame induction. The first thing Alberto Del Rio plans on doing after possibly re-signing with WWE is apologizing for his mistakes. The veteran star had his fair share of backstage problems in the WWE, and Del Rio has expressed remorse about the past.
