After being announced for the women's Royal Rumble match a few weeks ago and recognized in WWE as Knockouts IMPACT Champion, Mickie James took the number 20 by entering with her belt and her current theme song. She was then eliminated as 18th by Lita, but first, she had eliminated Michelle McCool herself.
After the match, WWE interviewer Megan Morant paused for a while with the IMPACT champion backstage and obviously talked with her about what had just happened.
The post-match emotion for Mickie James
"Incredible, incredible," James said when asked how she felt.
"If you had told me this moment was going to happen right now, I would have said you're crazy. And here we are. We went out there and made history. I mean, obviously, I wanted to win, I had my sights high because obviously the winner goes to Wrestlemania, and I wanted that moment, but just to go out there as a WWE family, as Mickie James - the legend, but also as Mickie James ...
Mickie James 'Hardcore Country', is something the WWE Universe has never seen, and to represent IMPACT as Knockouts World Champion… I think I did a great job, I did a great performance and I'm sorry guys, I didn't win, but in my heart, the world won because we just crossed one of the biggest barriers you have ever seen, and we did for women!
You know what I mean?" Mickie James also talked about working with people he had an affair with, like Lita, and others he had never struggled with before and then added, “It was an amazing night and I'm just grateful to be here, and for the opportunity to make history.
So thank you, WWE. Thanks, IMPACT. Thanks girls. It was great, it was great, " she said before getting excited. I'm trying not to cry today, I promised. I cried, Beth [Phoenix] made me cry last night with her Instagram post, I cried again there in Gorilla Position, I cried all day, but I'm tough, so I'm not crying, but thank you."
