Shawn Michaels on who helped him understand the importance of Royal Rumble

WWE's annual event started in 1988, with Shawn Michaels participating in every edition from 1989 to 1998. Over the past 10 years, HBK has participated in the Royal Rumble match 6 times, winning against each other in 1995 and in 1996.

In conversation with WWE hosts The Bump, which airs free every Wednesday at 4 pm on WWE's YouTube channel, Shawn explained that watching Mr. Perfect helped him understand the importance of the Royal Rumble.

Shawn Michaels talks about Royal Rumble

“I can say this, watching Mr.

Perfect, Curt Hennig out there in the Rumble, he just made everything he did and how he did it spectacularly. He didn't win, he never won a Royal Rumble, but he was the first guy I looked at and he made me think, 'Oh my God, even in this event with 30 other people, you can become the focal point.

' When I saw him do it, it was then that I looked at it from a point of view of: 'the Rumble can now be a studied performance type event where you can really outdo yourself' in a way that I thought was quite challenging with 30 other people and so much more going on on the show.

But after watching Curt that night, he stuck in my brain forever. It wasn't so much about winning, but about everything else you did in the time you were out there. " In the same interview, Shawn Michaels also told of his participation in the 1997 Royal Rumble, when he confronted Sycho Sid, sharing with everyone a curious anecdote about his health: "Honestly, the thing I remember most about this is having had the 'flu that kept me up all night, I was incredibly sick while I was out there for that event. Worst thing I've ever felt before. "
