Drew McIntyre dreamed of facing Triple H

Shortly before WrestleMania 38, Triple H formalized his retirement from wrestling. The Game had moved away from the ring in recent years, thanks to the advancing age and the willingness to devote himself full time to his managerial role.

In September 2021, the 14-time world champion underwent delicate heart surgery following a cardiac event. The long rehabilitation led him to abandon the desire to return to fighting and made him make the decision to retire.

On the second night of WrestleMania 38, HHH made a brief appearance in the ring to greet the WWE Universe (Hunter deposited his boots in the center of the ring). In a long interview with 'talkSPORT', Drew McIntyre admitted that he always wanted to face the 'Cerebral Assassin' at WrestleMania.

Drew McIntyre on facing Triple H

“Since returning to WWE, I've tried everything I can to organize a match between myself and Triple H at WrestleMania. I proposed it to him a myriad of times, but unfortunately, this dream did not materialize.

We had shared the ring a couple of times during my first WWE experience. After my return, we faced off once in Japan and it was really cool. We entered the ring together, we had nothing in mind, but we still gave birth to an electrifying match.

The Game is an icon of this business" - said Drew McIntyre. “I'm sorry I wasn't able to challenge him at WrestleMania, but I'm glad he's recovered and happy with his family. Triple H and William Regal were instrumental in my return to WWE and I will never stop thanking them for everything they have done for me” - added the Scot.

Drew is having the best moment of his entire career: “I really love wrestling at this stage of my life. I haven't always been that passionate and ambitious. When I was first released by WWE, I wasn't doing my best.

Now everything is different”. Drew McIntyre recently sat down with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if he'd like to see the championship brought back out of retirement, McIntyre was very excited about the possibility because he wants the title for himself: "Yes!

I just want it," Drew McIntyre said. "Because when I was a kid and I saw it I was like, ‘Ah man, I want to be European champion’ and now I can’t because it doesn’t exist right now. I don’t like too many titles and there are a lot right now, but I just wanted it when I was a kid."
