The last few days have been monopolized by Vince McMahon's case. The boss of the company is in fact undergoing an internal investigation by the WWE board for giving $3 million to a former employee with whom he allegedly had an extramarital affair.
Meanwhile, Vince has temporarily stepped down as CEO and President of WWE, with Stephanie McMahon taking her interim seat. “The Special Committee has appointed Stephanie McMahon interim CEO and interim President. WWE and its Board of Directors have taken all allegations of misconduct very seriously.
Board directors have hired independent legal counsel to assist them in an independent audit. The company and the board of directors do not expect further observations until the investigation is concluded" - reads an official note.
Vince opened the SmackDown episode that aired this week. In a very short promo, the now-former president repeated the slogan 'Then, Now, Forever, Together' in front of the WWE Universe.
Dutch Mantell reflects on Vince McMahon
In the latest edition of 'Smack Talk' on Sportskeeda, former WWE manager Dutch Mantell invited the company to use this opportunity to change things for the better.
“I believe WWE will never be the same after this scandal. Even if it turns out to be a big hole in the water, I think there will be substantial changes. Vince McMahon is no longer able to handle business on a daily basis, it is now clear to everyone.
The Stamford federation cannot continue like this, the time has come to take a step forward” - declared Mantell very frankly. Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Booker T didn't want to go too far: “There are pretty serious allegations at stake, so you have to be careful.
I don't have enough elements to be able to unbalance myself, I would risk saying something totally wrong. WWE is my home and news like this is never a good thing. I really have no idea what will happen in the next few weeks”.
Recall that the scandal also involves John Laurinaitis. According to Fightful Select, the affair between the WWE Chairman and the paralegal was suspected by many people within the company. The report also mentions that she was given a big promotion during last April's budget cuts.
Fightful was informed that the woman was promoted from John Laurinaitis' assistant to a “director” during that period. The WWE Board has also reportedly uncovered other nondisclosure agreements that involve claims of misconduct towards Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis.
