Shawn Michaels retired from wrestling after playing an extraordinary match against The Undertaker in the WrestleMania 26 main event. HBK made WWE history, despite being a highly controversial wrestler. His arrogant attitude and his desire to break through at any cost created more than a few problems with colleagues backstage.
In addition to being a four-time world champion, the 56-year-old from Chandler won two editions of the Royal Rumble match and was the first to complete the Grand Slam. Starting in 2018, Shawn joined NXT alongside his great friend Triple H.
Michaels has helped a lot of talents grow and has proven to have matured since the early years of his career. The former heavyweight champion currently holds the position of 'Vice President of Talent Development' alongside Bruce Prichard.
A guest on the latest edition of 'WWE The Bump', Shawn spoke at length about his experience in the 'Black and Gold' brand.
Shawn Michaels is a wrestling legend
“I didn't think that - after having performed in the ring for so many years - I would be able to find stimuli even working backstage.
I just want to repay their trust and not ruin everything” - said Shawn Michaels. “Helping young talent isn't as easy as it might seem. When they step foot in WWE, they are insecure and scared. They are hungry, they want to know how to get to Wrestlemania as soon as possible.
I support them in their path, without ever betraying their trust” - he added. According to Dave Meltzer, a well-known correspondent for the Wrestling Observer, WWE management is doting on Shawn: “Everyone is very happy with the work Michaels has done in recent months.
He has blasted young talents like Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, LA Knight, Grayson Waller and Tony D 'Angelo in no time. Vince McMahon believes that Shawn has a strong aptitude for the creative process”. HBK played his last match at Crown Jewel in 2018, a choice he admitted regretted.
In a recent interview with KTALnews, Ezekiel claimed that Michaels has always been his favorite wrestler, and facing him at WrestleMania would be a dream come true. "There's a couple, one, I would love to go one-on-one with my brother [Elias].
I think it would be just a dream match, me and him, at WrestleMania, in front of the world. That would be incredible. On top of that though, I got to say, Shawn Michaels was always my favorite wrestler. The Heartbreak Kid, so that is a dream match for sure," said Ezekiel.
