Bray Wyatt became world famous thanks to his experience in WWE, where he was a three-time world champion. The 35-year-old from Brooksville has won the WWE Championship once and the Universal title twice, using a gimmick that thrilled fans making him the possible heir to The Undertaker.
Wyatt also captured the Raw Tag Team Championship alongside Matt Hardy and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with Luke Harper and Randy Orton. On July 31, 2021, after several months of absence from the ring, WWE announced the release of Bray leaving everyone speechless.
As a guest on the latest edition of the 'The Wrestling Outlaws' podcast, former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo tried to shed light on Bray Wyatt's controversial farewell.
Vince Russo reflects on Bray Wyatt
"Numerous experts were convinced that Bray Wyatt was destined to follow in the footsteps of absolute legends such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker" - explained Vince Russo.
“The WWE creative team was able to push Wyatt to a certain level, but then the situation escalated. If you don't have new ideas to keep an athlete on the crest of the wave, you can't help but bring him down. This has always been the great challenge of wrestling.
I would never have allowed Bray to lose all the momentum of him, but I don't know all the details of the story” - he added. Vince hopes for Wyatt's resounding return to WWE: “Vince McMahon's company has dug a hole so deep it's not easy to get out of it.
It could take three years to build a credible main eventer. The only short-term solution is to get Bray Wyatt back and put a rocket on his back. WWE has no other choice right now. Management recalled Brock Lesnar because there were no viable alternatives.
The same goes for the return of John Cena. These are all symptoms of the fact that WWE has been all wrong in the last few years”. Russo felt it was brilliant on WWE's part to utilize John Cena to highlight other stars, as he explained below while breaking down RAW with Dr.
Chris Featherstone: "Yeah, I mean, everybody was getting the 'Cena rub.' I mean, that's smart. I would do the same thing. You've got him there for a night," explained Vince Russo. "Give everybody the Cena rub, and that's what they tried to do. So, I don't have a problem with them doing that whatsoever."
