After being abandoned for months in oblivion, the tag team titles of the women's division will return to being great protagonists in WWE. This Monday on Raw, in fact, a valid tournament will have begun to crown the new champions.
There is still no news on the participants nor on the possible return of Sasha Banks and Naomi (now chatted for weeks), the last to have worn those belts around the waist. Meanwhile, Asuka wanted to tease fans on social media with the following message: "I'll be the Women's Tag Team Champion again.
But who will be my partner?" We remind you that the Japanese fighter was in the past champion twice together with Kairi Sane and Charlotte Flair. Neither, however, should take part in the tournament. There was also talk of a change in Asuka's ring name, but luckily they were just rumors.
Asuka held on to the RAW Women's Championship for a very long time, defeating several top names.
Backstage News on Asuka
Monday Night RAW Superstar Asuka has been away from WWE television since last month's Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
At the moment the favorites of the tournament, if they were to participate, would seem to be Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky, surprisingly returning to SummerSlam together with Bayley (a move strongly desired by Triple H). Attention, however, to the possible passage in the main roster of Toxic Attraction, stable of NXT 2.0 headed by Mandy Rose, current champion, and composed of Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne.
Mandy Rose has in fact repeatedly hinted that the switch to Raw could be imminent. The tournament finals are also rumored to be held at Clash at the Castle, WWE's grand return to a UK stadium after more than 30 years. One of the criticisms leveled at the Stamford-based company in recent years has been precisely that of giving little importance to female couple titles.
Former Renee Young threw a jab, stating that the belts were only important for 30 seconds and then fell completely into oblivion. We'll see if the wind changes with the new Triple H management. Speaking to GiveMeSport, Becky Lynch admitted that she told Asuka about her pregnancy backstage on RAW before the segment was taped despite being told by the higher ups not to do so.
"I told her just before, it was a great reaction," said Lynch. "She wasn't supposed to know. I wasn't supposed to tell her, but I really like Asuka so..."
