In the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown, a match was to be staged for the tournament that will serve to decree the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions between Natalya and Sonya Deville and Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark.
Unfortunately, for the NXT couple, things have changed a bit, as in the evening, a few hours before the broadcast, Shawn Michaels confirmed via video that the two would not participate due to a medical stop. Specifically for Zoey Stark, an injury was pointed out during Wednesday's episode of NXT Heatwave, where the wrestler who has just returned from a knee injury, challenged Mandy Rose for the title.
While for Nikkita it was said that she simply did not get the ok from the doctors.
Update on Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark
Obviously, the two had to be replaced and so Michaels sent Toxic Attraction to debut on the main roster, specifically the duo formed by Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, who challenged and defeated Natalya and Sonya Deville advancing in the tournament.
But of course, there was also the desire to understand what the problem of the two absent was, especially for Nikkita Lyons since PWInsider focused very much on her saying that she was absent at the tapings. To make things clear, Dave Meltzer told the WWE Universe that the problem could be that of an absence of COVID vaccination for Nikkita, who therefore was not able, by law, to travel to Canada where she was kept the bet.
Perhaps a little perplexing is the fact that WWE did not know that its own wrestler was not vaccinated, especially since in the previous months some people would have been fired for this, such as Nia Jax. It seems that now the WWE has to make further checks on their roster in order not to run into unpleasant surprises that go to upset their plans.
Former NXT producer "Road Dogg" Brian James gave high praise to Zoey Stark: "I want to mention Zoey Stark, I know she had knee surgery when I was still there, and I know she is healing up. I think Zoey Stark, her and Asuka in my mind are two of the best women professional wrestlers going today.
I don't know where she's been, when she first showed up I was like, 'Where have you been all my life?'.. When you try to help somebody and they put the work in, it makes you want to help them so much more. That's where I feel like she (Zoey Stark) was."
