Wrestling fans will not easily forget the Friday Night SmackDown episode of March 11, 2022. In what seemed like a very common episode of the blue show, Big E suffered a terrible injury that led to his neck breaking. While Ridge Holland performed a 'Belly to Belly Suplex' on him outside the ring, the New Day member landed badly and broke two cervical vertebrae (the famous C6 and C1).
Although rehabilitation is progressing well, it is still too early to say whether or not Big E will be able to fight back. There is a possibility that his wrestling career ended here, as he himself admitted in a recent interview with 'TMZ Sports'
In WWE, the 36-year-old from Tampa has once held the WWE Championship, once the NXT title, twice the Intercontinental Championship, twice the Raw Tag Team Championship and six times the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. He also won the 2021 edition of Money in the Bank.
Ridge Holland speaks about Big E
During an interview with 'Metro', Ridge Holland spoke about Big E's condition following his terrible neck injury. "The truth is that Big E's injury was a huge blow to my confidence. The most important thing is that Big E is better now and that he can lead a normal life” - he declared.
Big E worked as a scout and road agent at SummerSlam alongside Triple H. “My philosophy is to learn to be happy with what life gives me. I am thankful that I am not in a wheelchair, but if I had ended up in it I would have adjusted accordingly.
I'll be at peace whatever happens. If I had a negative attitude, I would feel bad and would not help people who love me. If I can't fight anymore, I'll accept it. My limbs work. I assure you it could have been a lot worse" - confided the former WWE Champion.
Big E recently took to Twitter to give the WWE Universe an update on his recovery after a neck injury back in March. "Update! My C1 isn’t ossifying (forming bone) quite yet. The current plan is to get more scans at the one-year mark & see how it’s progressing.
The great news is I feel tremendous & surgery is off the table." Speaking with Robbie Fox, Big E recalled how he got a text message from Edge. "Edge texted me and, I don't wanna butcher the text, but it was something about just like the fact that it took so long, makes it so much sweeter," said Big E.
