After starting his reign of terror as an Intercontinental champion just a few weeks ago at Friday Night Smackdown, with Austrian athlete Gunther beating Ricochet, snatching him the secondary title of the Friday night show, it seems that Gunther has targeted the Superstar currently the most prominent of the entire company: WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
In his last interview, in fact, Gunther had said he wanted to have a match against the Tribal Chief, but for the moment, of course, there will be none of this. During the episode of the blue show broadcast last night, in fact, Gunther received an official challenge for Clash at the Castle, which came out of a match with five athletes, which therefore crowned a new n ° 1 contender for the secondary title of the show.
Sheamus will challenge Gunther
During one of the contests aired tonight at Smackdown, we saw five athletes from the blue show compete against each other, namely Sheamus, Madcap Moss, Sami Zayn, Ricochet and Happy Corbin.
That match was valid for a title shot at the Intercontinental title at the next WWE ppv which will air from UK soil next September: Clash at the Castle. Winning the contest was Sheamus, the former WWE Champion, who struck Happy Corbin with his devastating Brogue Kick, thus becoming Gunther's challenger for Cardiff.
Surely, next September 3rd we will most likely see a very stiff match, raw and concrete, as it is in the style of the two European athletes. But let's see at the moment what are the matches already made official by the WWE for the ppv with the following card: - Roman Reigns vs Drew McIntyre - Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match - Liv Morgan vs Shayna Baszler - WWE Smackdown Women's Championship match - Bayley, Dakota Kai & IYO SKY vs Bianca Belair, Asuka & Alexa Bliss - Gunther vs Sheamus - Intercontinental Championship match - Riddle vs Seth Rollins.
Intercontinental Champion Gunther recently sent a message following WWE's massive announcement of their new brand, NXT Europe. "The whole of Europe has a rich history of Pro Wrestling. In the last decade, a lot of people have unselfishly put in the work to revive this great sport at our doorsteps.
I'm excited for the talent and fans," tweeted Gunther. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Gunther was asked about his goals as a champion as well as who he would like to face in the ring in the future. "I am going to give this title the prestige it needs and make it the greatest prize in wrestling.
I would like to wrestle John Cena and anyone else who is considered elite. I didn’t come here to be mediocre. I came here to be in the ring with the best. I’m just getting started. I’m very excited for this journey."
